First Class Free! Ages 5 and up. Dancers will learn the fundamentals of Irish dance in this 30-minute class. Dancers during the school year will be able to perform at St Patrick’s Day in March and Summer session students are able to perform at Irish Fair of Minnesota in August
This one is for dancers with a little more experience. Dancers who have been in New beginner during the previous school year, who have not yet demonstrated proficiency in both reels and light jigs, or who have not yet competed at a feis. Dancers will also be introduced to Hardshoe at this level (6:15-6:45)
Softshoe: Dancers who demonstrate skill in timing and basic technique, who can demonstrate both Reel and Light Jig steps will continue on with their softshoe skills in this weekly, 45-minute class. Class time will focus on technique and continuing to learn softshoe dances such as the slip jig. Dancers in this class also have the opportunity to begin competing at feiseanna.
Hardshoe: Dancers who have been in Beg 1 during the 2022-2023 season, or dancers who are working towards learning their Beginner level “fast” hardshoe dances for competition will continue learning both the Treble Jig and Hornpipe. This class is a weekly 45-minute class
Softshoe: Dancers who have demonstrated and competed their Reel, Light Jig, and Slip Jig who have advanced to at least the Novice level will continue learning new softshoe skills and steps in this 45-minute class
Hardshoe: Dancers who have been in Beg 2 for the 2022-2023 season, and dancers who demonstrate knowledge of Fast Treble Jig and Hornpipe steps who are ready to learn “slow” speed steps will begin learning the fundamentals of advanced hardshoe technique during this 45 minute class
This class is a twice-weekly Hardshoe and Softshoe class for dancers who are competing in Prizewinner through Championship. This class will focus on advanced rhythms, techniques and choreography to focus on competition. Dancers at this level also have the opportunity for additional performances during the season. This class will also incorporate conditioning specific to dancer’s needs and skill set.
